Linden Lab, second life and land issues...

I have an alt, or rather more than one alt, but really one that matters. She is there for me to run a shop and create things, specifically outfits, clothing, shoes, etc.  I bought mainland land a few months ago now, probably four or so... and ever since I bought it, I've been having issues with rezzing there. It's like nothing I've ever experienced and I've been around in sl since early 2006. I've seen a lot of weird stuff. I've seen times when you couldn't rez for some reason or when you did rez the item would disappear. ,

I did the same thing with this land that I've done with land many times before. I made a land group, set the land to group and made it so only group members could rez. However, the owner of the land, me, should be able to rez there tag or no tag.

But in fact, I can't. It gives me an error saying, the owner of this land does not allow me to rez. This message is particularly annoying because I AM the owner...

I have so far reported this issue twice to Linden Labs and their sole solution was to tell me to go to the official viewer and to restart the sim. Restarting the sim does correct the issue for a temporary period of time and then it goes right back to giving me the error again. Clearly there is a bug in the server or something causing this. If that weren't the case, restarting the sim would not do any good. So it has nothing whatever to do with the viewer.

I am so annoyed by the whole thing that I can feel steam coming out of my ears. I am especially irritated by the condescending attitude of the representatives of Linden Lab. Please, I was not born yesterday!

The Garden...petals picks aka wishlist

These are my two picks of things I didn't or felt like I couldn't buy at this time at The Garden. The quality of everything seemed amazing and I bought a lot of little dribs and drabs of things as I'm trying to set up my sl home for the rest of autumn and into winter.

The first of these is this amazing kitchen set by Cheeky Pea. Cheeky Pea continues to impress and delight me with their lovely creations. This one is no exception. It's called the Yukon Full Kitchen.

Each piece is fully animated. There's a kneading and a making bread animation. Washing dishes, washing hands, and a few just standing around poses on the kitchen part. On the island part, there's animations for talking, eating, drinking and cooking. There's also cuddle poses and in the adult version also sex poses. My picture does it no justice so I really recommend you go and see it for yourself.  Cheeky Pea - Yukon Kitchen (url opens in new window)

My other pick and I'm metaphorically weeping over it is the gorgeous Bozeman Barn by Barnesworth Anubis. Why am I weeping? Cause I just bought their equally beautiful home which is available at Colabor88. If I had known about this one first, I would have chosen this one instead as it's more in theme for the kind of fall atmosphere I want. I digress. Again my single pic in no way does this baby justice and you should really go see it for yourself. It has a fireplace open on both sides opening into both the living area and what I would call the den which also happens to be surrounded by windows. It has a room that would work well as a den though it's decorated with other The Garden items as a bedroom downstairs, plus a second bedroom/den/playroom/child's room downstairs as well. You can also see the Yukon kitchen in situ inside the Barn and there's also a loft area upstairs which I personally would make the master bedroom. It's a lovely build.

I can't really justify the purchase of these two items which is why I'm calling them my picks or wishlist items but I also really think these are two very stand out items at the event. Don't take that to mean the other things aren't amazing because they are. I purchased a lot of small things like a fireplace set from Mudhoney and furniture items from Bauwerk, Kuro and Culprit and I'm severely tempted by the set from lame as well.

Pet Peeve #Ilostcount - Crappy Hunt Gifts

Okay, don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about gifts that are just not my style or whatnot. I'm talking about those times when it's incredibly obvious this is not the same quality as the items for sale in the store.

I remember a while ago now, a big and well known store would have in the for sale items, all layers and all kinds of add ons in the box. It was not a cheap store. And every time they participated in a hunt, their hunt gift would be like... one top, on one layer.

I just did a store hunt. I won't mention which store cause this is not about embarrassing them or calling them out or anything like that. This is just about me getting really tired of store owners treating the people who are doing a hunt in their store like idiots or second class citizens.

Caveat: I know that a lot of hunters can be really rude, insulting, expect everything handed to them and are generally the wart on the butt of humanity. And believe me I  appreciate a nice hunt gift so so much. Really.

I have been a store owner myself. I know how to make clothes in a general sort of way. I know how much time goes into it etc. But I also know, that for example, once you've made a top texture - it's a matter of a few minutes more to make each layer for that top. And layering options are always appreciated, yeah?

So what exactly is the logic involved in not taking that extra few minutes to at least make that top have layering options?

As I see it, on both sides of the line, i.e as both a customer and as a shop owner... hunts have two real important points.

1) As a shop owner... it may take one, two, or ten hunts before people start looking at my hunt gifts and coming back to look at my for sale merchandise. But it is guaranteed eventually people will come to look and shop if I just keep on going.

I will be helped more if my hunt gift gets blogged, hopefully more than once. I am also introducing my personal style and the quality of my items to potential new customers. So I feel it would be best for my business if I do my utmost to put out a good gift.

This seems like common sense.

2) As a hunter ...Some hunts are free but a lot of them nowadays are pay, anything from 1L to as much as 40L I've seen for hunts. That 40L one was a home decor hunt and most of the items were worth much more than 40L so I have no problem with that. I personally am in a position to not mind paying for a hunt gift rather than having it be free.

But if I pay for it, whether 1L or 5l or 10l... I expect to get a good gift. If I do get a good gift and I like it and the store owner didn't make me jump through hoops to find it... I don't mind hunting.

I do mind hunting for .01x.01 boxes hidden inside walls and stuff which you need special ninja hunter skills to find especially if the gift inside said box basically sucks.

If I like it and the store is new to me, I OFTEN go back and shop. See my previous post where I mentioned I spend a lot in SL. That store owner has gained a new customer and probably one who will return when something new is released.

But if the gift looks like you just grabbed the first cheap sculpt on mp and slapped a texture on it and called that a hunt gift... I'm going to be pissed and insulted and I won't go back if you paid me to do so. That store owner has just lost a new customer.

So, in closing, don't put out crappy low quality hunt gifts. You are hurting yourself and pissing me off.

I have an addiction, oh noes!

Hello, my name is Petal and I'm an addict.

To what you ask? Hair. Skin. Shoes. Clothes. Jewelry. More or less in that order. Much of the time my reach exceeds my grasp when it comes to these addictions. This probably defends my inventory from severe addiction overload but oh! If I was a Lindenaire... there would be no stopping me.

What brought on this confession? Oh, well...Catwa released Jessica Rabbit hair... and Jessica Rabbit costume and I am in love. What else? Ploom is having a sale on hair for the next week or so, 13 percent off! Wasabi Pills released some great new hairs too. One makes me look like one of those German beerfest girls, all I need is one of those beerfest dirndls to complete the picture. I'm sure other hair makers will get into the act too because I swear they all plan on when they decide to torture us poor addicts with releases just when we don't have two pennies to rub together.

Haven't they heard there's been a Gov't shutdown in the US? *pouts like I'm five*

I have a strict budget for my SLness, I have a very generous amount I spend in sl every two weeks ish... but I always blow through it so fast. *sighs*Candy fair pretty much ripped through a good part of it. Then there was Fameshed which had some things I've been hankering for since the first of the month, then there was Collabor88. You see my point?

I also bought two skins, several jewelry items, about four fatpacks of shoes (because I don't like wasting money by doing it piecemeal), lots of clothes etc. *sighs* I don't think this addiction is ever going to leave me. It's so much fun!

Opinion - Fashions for mesh breasts and booty...

I don't understand the tendency in sl for fashion, especially clothing made for mesh breasts and booty, to lean towards "coochie cutter" type shorts and torn fishnet tops.

Don't get me wrong, I like those things from time to time too. And I'm not adding any labels to you if you like wearing that sort of outfit. More power to you.

And yet, maybe it's my age showing, but I want to dress like a regular adult in sl. I want to dress how I might dress in real life if I was 30 years younger and had the body my avatar does. *laughs*

And that means simple nice looking outfits. Sure I want to show off my cleavage or my booty, but I don't necessarily have to do that with actually showing nipple or butt crack. I know different people have different relationships or viewpoints about their avatar.

But for me, my avatar is ME. Maybe she doesn't look like me but nevertheless she's ME. She's ME 2.0. How I would look in a perfect world without the side effects of illness or depression or aging.

And because she's me, I want her to be dressed in a way that I would really dress in that same perfect world with virtually unlimited spending money etc at my disposal.

So I don't want jeans showing half my butt crack. (I don't get the point of those, if you wanted to show off your butt crack why are you wearing jeans to begin with?)  Don't get me wrong, I love my phat azz and my butt crack but I just don't have a burning need to show that much of them to all and sundry.

And the same goes for my boobs. I loved my Tangos and I love my Mirages even more. But I don't need to show nipple when I'm just walking around shopping, okay?

And another thing, I'm not seeing very many skirts that could actually be called a skirt unless it's mesh and for me, mesh clothing sort of defeats the point of my having my lovely attachments in the first place. (and while I'm talking about mesh, someone needs to add a third clothing layer to these boobs and butt, that you can apply an alpha layer to just like you would wear one, it would be over the skin layer. It would make it much much easier to wear mesh clothing without having to take off your boobs or butt first.)

I want a skirt that you know, actually looks like a skirt and not a body suit, please and thank you. And since you need clothing layer clothes for phat azz anyway... where are all the flexi skirts? Or a mix of flexi and mesh? Or a mix of sculpt and flexi?

I know that Sn@tch clothing in the past made some beautiful sculpt/flexi skirts that work very well but sadly, Ivey has announced she won't be making appliers for Phat Azz (oh so sad) for personal reasons. *sigh*

But come on ya'll? Surely somebody besides me wants a mixed mesh/flexi type skirt? Yes/yes?

This has been an opinion. See disclaimer before you get your pixel panties in a bunch, please.
